Not quite dead; just floating.
Hey, guys. This is just a quick post to let you know I won’t be updating with any serious discussion today; I’m rather busy, working a lot on my other two jobs, and just a bit burned out on writing. I keep trying to start a post on a number of topics and then drawing a blank. Writer’s block is apparently kicking me in the teeth today. (No, NaNo’s not contributing to that at all, why ever would you ask?) I suppose sometimes you just get a little bogged down in your subject matter, and it’s hard to write about the same topic every day - as much as I enjoy this, enjoy the debates it can spark, and the conflicting opinions people post to offer differing perspectives. I just need a day off.
I may do a weekend edition post tomorrow (or even much later tonight) to make up for it so I won’t feel like I’m slacking on the job since I hate missing daily updates - but if I don’t, just look for me again on Monday with a new No Style comic.
As an aside, it is damned creepy to be recognized in your local grocery store by someone who occasionally reads the comic. Seriously.
Quick update on the 1,000 Comments Contest before I go:
…just to give this post something of substance, after all.
We’re currently at 922 comments - just 78 more to go, down to the double digits. That’s the home stretch, kids. I definitely think we can make 1,000 by the end of the month (especially with all the weird link farming sites giving me pingbacks; what the heck is up with that?). Remember, the prize is a Kingston 1GB USB Flash drive and a cameo spot as a character in No Style. If you can think of another prize you’d rather have, let me know and I’ll see if it’s within my means.
I’m gone for now; have to get back to work. Have a good weekend.

Don’t worry, I’m still stalled on NaNo, too (and the martini didn’t help). Hooray, am I 923?

924.
Don’t worry about NaNo, I wanted to do it but haven’t even started yet 8D

925 and 926, actually, as there’ve been a couple of comments to older posts since I put that count up. And now this is 927.
Don’t get me started on NaNo. I managed to finally get some writing done yesterday, then had to put it down to stay up until four in the morning wrestling with fricking Flash, an already-compiled SWF for which I didn’t have the source FLA or the library files, an SWF ripper program, and Flash’s fricking non-intuitive (and often non-timeline-related) ActionScripted audio controls. Bleh. Bah. BAH.
…yes, I know that probably made little sense to anyone but me. I’m vaguely griping about other-job stuff. Ignore me.

And that’s exactly why I plead ignorance every time someone comes to me with a Flash question. Sometimes I’d rather deal with some of my worst ex’s than with Flash.

You were recognised in your grocery store? That’s kinda freaky. If that ever happened to me I would just stare at whoever it was in fear then leap for cover behind the potatoes.

Kujo: Try teaching it as part of one of your jobs. There are times when I have to teach myself how to do something before I can write up a lesson, despite the fact that it’s something basic that I should be able to do easily. It’s never bloody intuitive. Would you believe that for a while I considered doing No Style entirely in Flash? Now I just use it for dialogue and assembly, while I do the actual art in Photoshop. Speaking of that, I really need to get back to work on it so I won’t be up all night scribbling it…
Shirvona: Yep. I was in line and the guy ahead of me kept giving me odd looks, squinting at me and such, while I avoided eye contact and wondered what the hell his problem was. Then he said, “Hey…hey, I know you! The pink glasses! You’re that guy who does that comic!”
…I’m going to stop wearing those things.

Holy crap, I missed the part about you being recognized. One would think it is the ultimate honor, but it does seem kinda creepy stalker-like (more so since you don’t have a real picture of yourself on the site). I made the mistake of putting my internet pseudonym on my badge for Anime Expo and was tackle-glomped when I wandered too close to the Gaia booth. I took all the pictures of me off LiveJournal the same night.
